The Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman) is a group of three islands located in the Caribbean Sea halfway between Cuba and Honduras. They are only a 70 minute direct flight from Miami.
The islands have a land area of about 260 sq. km and a population of approximately 50,000 people. Grand Cayman, with its capital George Town, is the largest and main island.
The Islands are a dependent territory of the United Kingdom (British Dependent Overseas Territory). As a British Dependent Overseas Territory, the legal system is English common law. The language is English and the currency is the Caymanian dollar “KYD” which is fixed to the U.S. dollar at CI $1.00 to U.S.$1.20.
Financial Services and tourism are the islands' main industries.
The Cayman Islands are readily accessible by air, with international airlines flying direct from the United States to Grand Cayman. Direct services are available from such airports as Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Miami, New York and Tampa. There are also direct flights to and from London (Heathrow) and Toronto, Canada.
The Cayman Islands are on U.S. Eastern Standard Time. They enjoy excellent land based and wireless communications, including broadband internet access.
